HMV French Lumiere   SOLD

HMV French Lumiere

Never offered in Great Britain, the French model of the Lumiere is unique for two reasons. Firstly the turntable runs at something like 15 degrees to the horizontal and secondly the diaphragm lies down on the record, doing away with the long wooden linkage used in the British model. In addition lid has a segmented stay that holds the lid at three different 'stops' acting as a volume control. This is surprisingly effective.

This example has a cosmetic fault; At one time it was fitted with an electric pickup, leaving three small filled holes in the deck (see detail pictures here) and a small hole in the cabinet side through which the pickup cable was lead.
