Edison Amberola A-VI £450
The 1913 A-VI Amberola was a rare failure for Edison design. You can read more about it in George Frow's 'Guide to The Edison Phonograph'. Basically the revolutionary design with the motor largely above the bedplate included a brass gear which proved noisy. The substitute aluminium gear was quieter but still whined and so the model was dropped.
A handsome machine with chocolate, rather than black-painted, topworks, giving an altogether 'different' appearance.
The asking price for this example may seem low for such a rare beast, but there is a problem- the mahogany case has been completely stripped and waxed externally, leaving the machine working fine but cosmetically flawed. If you have polishing skills (the wood is well prepared) or are happy to see it the way it is (which is not bad) this may be one for you.
